A Hybrid Cloud Foundation For Vietnam’s Retail And SME Banking
Sacombank, one of Vietnam’s larger joint stock commercial banks, has completed a modernization of the core banking infrastructure underpinning its retail and small and medium enterprise operations. The bank moved to the newest version of the Temenos Core Banking platform, shifting away from an on-premises deployment toward a hybrid cloud architecture running on Red Hat OpenShift and IBM Power infrastructure.
The platform now supports a system that serves millions of customers and handles roughly 13 million transactions each day. Temenos, the Switzerland-based banking software provider, said the go-live delivered measurable gains: application performance improved by 200%, deployment cycles became three times faster, and Sacombank’s server footprint shrank by half.
Sacombank Deputy CEO Luu Danh Duc described the upgrade as a milestone in the bank’s digital transformation, saying the new foundation would let it accelerate innovation and deliver new services more quickly while maintaining secure, seamless banking experiences for customers.
Cross-Border Payments And The Role Of IBM Infrastructure
As part of the same modernization program, Sacombank selected Temenos Payments Hub, a module intended to support the bank’s cross-border payments capability. William Dale, Temenos’ Managing Director for Asia Pacific, said the vendor was proud to support Sacombank’s move to hybrid cloud and its selection of the Payments Hub, calling it a strengthened foundation for innovation and growth.
On the infrastructure side, IBM said the combination of IBM Power and Red Hat OpenShift was designed to give Sacombank a more scalable and resilient environment while preserving the reliability expected of a mission-critical banking system. Hilery Hunter, General Manager for IBM Power and IBM Infrastructure CTO, said the successful upgrade brought together IBM Power and Red Hat OpenShift to support a scalable, resilient hybrid cloud setup.
Available public reporting on the deal centers on the vendor-confirmed performance figures and executive statements; independent, bank-disclosed data on cost or transaction-level impact was not available at time of publication.
