Thailand’s electronics manufacturing sector has drawn more than $30.5 billion in investment since 2023, with printed circuit board and electronic component projects accounting for the largest single share. The figures, released by the Thailand Board of Investment to coincide with the Thailand Electronics Circuit Asia 2026 summit in Bangkok, underscore the country’s growing role in AI hardware and advanced semiconductor packaging as global supply chains diversify away from traditional manufacturing hubs.

Investment Momentum Builds Around AI And Advanced Packaging
Thailand’s Board of Investment said the country’s electronics sector has captured over $30.5 billion in investment commitments since 2023, a figure the agency attributes to global manufacturers relocating and expanding AI hardware and semiconductor packaging operations across Southeast Asia. The announcement came as the BOI, together with the Thai Printed Circuit Association (THPCA) and the Hong Kong Printed Circuit Association (HKPCA), opened the third edition of the Thailand Electronics Circuit Asia summit at Bangkok’s BITEC exhibition center on August 26.
Of the total investment, more than $10.1 billion across 224 projects is concentrated specifically in printed circuit boards and electronic components, the sector the BOI has identified as the backbone of Thailand’s push into higher-value manufacturing. That figure builds on an earlier BOI disclosure from early August, when the agency reported $26.8 billion in cumulative investment applications for semiconductor and advanced electronics projects filed between 2023 and mid-2026, with PCB investment at that point valued near $9.85 billion across the same 224 projects. The gap between the two figures reflects the ongoing accumulation of investment applications processed by the BOI through August.
BOI Secretary General Narit Therdsteerasukdi said the nature of investment flowing into Thailand has shifted markedly. He noted that more than half of the world’s top PCB manufacturers have now selected Thailand as a production base, and that current capital is increasingly tied to frontier technologies rather than basic assembly capacity.
THECA 2026 Draws Global Supply Chain
THECA 2026, held under the theme “Innovating PCB and Advanced Electronics with Next-Gen Packaging,” runs from August 26 to 28 and brings together more than 300 global enterprises and roughly 7,000 delegates from 40 countries. The summit’s program spans more than 60 sessions covering AI infrastructure, semiconductor ecosystems, photonics, advanced packaging and electronics manufacturing services.
Pithan Ongkosit, President of the THPCA, described the event as evidence that Thailand is building the scale needed to serve as a regional electronics nexus, pointing to the integration of substrate suppliers, automated machinery makers, semiconductor firms and packaging specialists under one platform. Canice Chung, Chairman of the HKPCA and a summit co-organizer, said competitive advantage in the sector now depends less on manufacturing volume and more on international knowledge transfer and specialized technical talent, a theme reflected in new summit programming such as the Power2Motion track for power electronics and future mobility systems, and an ASEAN+ Technology Pavilion linking robotics, AI and IoT industry groups from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam.
Policy Context
The announcement follows a broader pattern of BOI disclosures through 2026 showing strong first-half investment applications, led by digital and electronics projects tied to data centers and AI infrastructure. BOI officials have framed the electronics push as part of a four-pillar strategy prioritizing high-value sectors, deepening domestic supply chain integration, and connecting Thai manufacturers to global production networks, as the country works to expand beyond a traditional low-cost manufacturing base.
